A Big Bed for a Big Girl

Goodbye Crib

The last night Emma slept in the crib/toddler bed I went in to check on her. I found her wrapped in Lion, her cuddle buddy. As you can tell she has grown a lot in the last year and with a new baby on the way it was a perfect time to get her a big girl bed. I was so excited to get to re-do her bedroom. In the summer I was lucky enough to get her dresser from my awesome neighbors for FREE! I only had to wash it down and touch up the white paint. I love her dresser.

When I told Colt I wanted a bunk bed for Emma he thought I was kidding. I grew up sleeping in bunk beds. I loved feeling so grown up when I could sleep on the top bunk and at times I didn't really mind sharing my room with my younger sisters. My thought process for her bed was so that in 2 years we wouldn't need to buy a new bed for the next child transition. Even if we are in a small house we will have enough beds for 2 little girls and another baby. I saw a beautiful bunk bed at Costco that I just had to have but it was $600, way too much for our budget. I will admit I shed a few tears of sadness for not being able to get her that pretty bed but I did well with choosing a bed that was just as cute for half the price.

This bunk bed was a monster to put together. I found it online and had it sent to the store so Colt could pick it up. With the neighbors help they parked the incredibly heavy and oddly skinny box in the hallway upstairs. It took me an hour to build the bottom bunk. This cute bed came in about a million pieces! I finished the bottom so Emma could sleep since we had moved the crib into the baby's room. The next day after church Sabrina came over and helped me finish building her top bunk. It looks unfinished because There is a ladder that goes on the top but I didn't want to tempt Emma to climb up there and break an arm or worse.

I am so proud of Emma she has slept better in her big bed and is still accident free. If you look close enough her entire top bunk is full of stuffed animals. I don't think the new baby will get too many of those, when I asked Emma if she wanted to let the baby have any she said no they were hers.

I want to get bunkbeds when we switch Charlotte to a big bed, too. I love them. I think it makes sense for the same reasons you do. I LOOOOOVVVVEEEE that dresser! Oh my heck, I cannot belive you got that for free! I've been looking at dresser's similar to that for my guest bedroom. Nice work! Love how the room looks!
