Phase One and a Disaster

* Lots of Pictures ahead, Hope you like what you see!

Well today makes 15 days we have been in our new house. We have begun to settle in and make things work for us. Before I re-cap the past few days here are some pictures of the house the day we got the keys.

Basement tv room with a great built in entertainment center.

Mini's bedroom, yes that is awesome jungle wallpaper, built in shelves and velcro feeling carpet.

Emma's bedroom, She loves the full length mirrors on the closet and the light pink wall color.

Dining room I love all the great natural light.

Kitchen with enough space at the counter for 6 stools, yay!

There are 2 bathrooms upstairs and 1 downstairs. The laundry is down and so are 2 additional big bedrooms. Colt has his own space for his computer and Emma has a big toy area.

The first few days of course were chaos. We got started early on a Saturday and by mid afternoon, Colt and his hard working buddies were getting so worn out. As their energy was beginning to fail we had at least 4 men from our new ward come and help bring in boxes and the rest of the heavy furniture. It was truly a welcome sight as everyone was worn out. By around 11pm I had all the beds put together and we happily crawled into clean sheets and crashed. I spent the next few days emptying this:

Yup, everything the ward helped bring in ended up in the living room upstairs, I was sort of mad because I made sure to label every box so it would get put at least in the right room. Oh well we were in and that's all that mattered. The first room after the kitchen that I wanted to get put together was a play space for Emma.

The Family room downstairs is big enough that we could section it off with the couch and set up a playroom for all the toys. Man do we have a lot of toys. It's kind of funny to see all the pink stuff next to the brown couch. I had a huge cubby bin from when I lived with my mom and that's what we sorted the different toys into bins. Eventually we will get nice containers for the toys but for now the dollar store bins are working just fine. It has been messy and cleaned about 5 times. It is great for us.

Colt's little office/sanctuary is right next to the play area. It is sectioned off by the toy cubby and he has set up Bug her own computer for games and movies if she wants to be next to him. There are shelves for his books and collector things and his pictures will be hung when he empties his boxes of stuff.   :)

Katie's room is not as gross as I was dreading it would be. The built-in shelves have been good for storage and if we have a boy he'll just have a jungle bedroom, not too bad right. It is plenty dark for her afternoon naps and everything we need fits in there perfectly.

Emmabug loves her room. She can climb up on the top bunk (once I got it put back together the right way thanks to cousin Corey) She helped decide what to put on the walls and she sleeps so well in there. Eventually we will put Katie on the bottom bunk and Emma will get to sleep on the top but I am holding off until closer to September for that to begin.

The upstairs living room is coming along nicely. My mother-in-law gave us two nice chairs as we only had one old worn brown couch. We got to pick out a nice new couch for upstairs and I won the battle of no TV in this room. It makes it formal but it doesn't feel like a waiting room. I am really starting to like it. I have to figure out what to do with the fireplace still but I like the look so far.

The basement family room was looking so good. We had just set up our new TV and surround sound system when all hell broke loose.

A Disaster:
On Friday I was just cleaning upstairs and starting to hang pictures while watching Emma's temperature, it kept going to 102. I had her lying on the couch and I heard Colt yell for me to get downstairs fast. When I got to the bottom of the stairs I stepped into wet squishy carpet. "NOOOOOOO!!" When we had our home inspection done they told us that the water heater was the original from 1970's. We knew it would probably go out but not just 2 weeks after moving in. Luckily Colt turned off the water to the house and I began towel brigade. Water had covered the entire hallway, back bathroom, laundry/heater area and worse under the new TV and built-in. Colt got on the phone with our home warranty people and within 3 hours we had a few guys out tearing up the carpet pad and getting industrial fans set up to dry things up.

So the good news is we got a new up to current code water heater that even has an expansion tank. The bad news is the plumber found a few "problems" during instillation. Let's just say we have an appointment with roto-rooter to come and camera snake the sewer drain to see if there are tree roots invading. Colt is not a happy home owner. The carpet clean-up guys will be here tomorrow to repair the carpet and we will see what Phase 2 brings. I hope it's all good news and we can finally be done with the unexpected home improvements. I have had enough of those for a while. I have already fixed the dishwasher, taken off the ugly vertical blinds upstairs and I tore out the stupid and impractical sliding glass door from the girls bathtub. That was a mess and it took me almost 2 hours to scrub the glue and gunk but you can't even tell there was a door there. Yay me!

Are you exhausted from reading? It has been a long weekend. I am ready for some good news. Tuesday we have an ultrasound to measure baby 3. We will get to find out if it's a he or a she. We also get to go visit our beloved Bear whom we have missed so much. Wish us luck!

So I finally got to sit down and read all about Katie now that I'm nursing. What an incredible miracle she is! You are an inspiration and have been through so much. Congrats on baby number 3!
