Playing Catch Up, Again...

The worst part about blogging is when I have so much happening I take no time to update at least once a month. I am so sorry for keeping you waiting to hear what our exciting life has been like. Here we go. . .

May 2013

In late April I had laser oblation done on my vericose veins. I have had this ugly cluster on the back of my right leg for as long as I can remember. I have always been self-conscious of it and hated my legs because I don't like answering questions about it. I went to the vein institute and they fed a laser up the large saphenous vein in each leg and sealed off the vein so it would close off and the other veins would take over. I am still having minor veins taken care of but my legs feel so much better. Shortly after my first leg procedure I had a terrible kidney attack. I ended up in the ER twice in 2 weeks and was diagnosed with several kidney stones one as large as 6mm. I was scheduled for lithotripsy and when they went in to blast it it had moved too close to my bladder so they had to retrieve it. Yup, they pulled it out of my ureter and I had to have a stint put in to help things heal. I was miserable for almost 3 weeks. If you have ever had a bladder infection imagine that pain 24/7 times 10. I am all healed now and have been given a list of foods to avoid to keep from getting more stones.

June 2013

After a quick Memorial Weekend at Bear Lake we had a slow start to June. Miss Carly began sitting up and rolling everywhere and Katie started climbing on the couches. Emma began swim lessons at the rec center. Our biggest challenge has been Katie's lack of sleep. Since she was 8 months old Katie has rarely slept a full night sleep. Like clockwork she continues to wake up between 2 and 3 am. I used to make her a bottle and attributed it to her premature birth. When Carly was born I tried to let Katelyn cry it out and she began hitting her head against the side of the crib making big bruises on her forehead. Now we are trying different medication. We have tried a blood pressure medication but I stopped after a week when I read some of the side effects that can happen. I tried essential oils putting lavender on her pillow but it just over stimulated her senses. I tried melatonin with the approval of our pediatrician and saw some results as she would fall asleep faster but she also became combative upon waking up. I have since stopped giving it to her. We saw a sleep dr and she prescribed an anti-depressant for Katelyn that would help her fall asleep and be less agitated during the day. At first we were able to hide her half a tablet in gummy treats. Sometimes she would take it with yogurt. I had to force it down her throat a few times. She would sleep a glorious 8 hours when she took the medicine and was in a better mood during the day but I felt guilty making her take it. We went back to benadryl and less sleep. After an overnight study at the sleep center it was determined that Katie does not have restless legs or sleep apnea. The dr suggested that she get her tonsils and adenoids out. Basically she is capable of sleeping on her own we just need to try and break her of the middle of the night habit  We are now medication free and struggling but I don't feel like a 2 year old should be on medication that is meant for adults.

July 2013

Another trip to Bear Lake began our July. We went on ATV rides and played at the beach and of course the pool. I began going to crossfit classes in the mornings and was feeling so good. I was getting stronger and lost a little bit of weight but the best part was my energy levels were awesome. I played so much at the lake. I went walking every morning, swimming at night even diving off the diving board. We rented a paddle board and I really liked that. I could see definition coming back in my arms and I loved it. Now I am in a slump. I hack it up to my lack of a good nights sleep. I am also still having treatments on my veins and I am advised not to do anything high impact. I need a kick in the butt to get going again. I really enjoy it and I need to improve myself. Anyway, July was thankfully quiet. We endured blistering heat and played in the water when we could. Emma and I began reading 30 minutes a day for the county library reading challenge. We read 7 little books that had chapters and less pictures. I think she has really enjoyed our time reading before bed. The library is going to give her a book as a prize for reading. I hope she keeps her love for reading through her school years and on. By the Way, she starts KINDERGARTEN on the 26th, WOW!! Katie has started walking a few steps at a time all on her own. She will stand in the middle of the room and walk, she'll push the doll stroller and when I ask her what she's doing she says "walking" Her speech is busting and she repeats so many things it's hilarious. Some of my favorites are when she says "oh shoot" and "I funny". My little Carly turned 9 months old. She is eating tons and loves little snacks and her sippy cup. She is trying to cut her first tooth but there is still no sign of it yet. She is army crawling all over the place as fast as she can. She loves it when Emma scares her and gives big slobbery kisses. It is so fun to watch her play with her sisters and still be such a good girl and content to sit quietly alone and play too.

So here we are in August and I am busy getting ready to send my Emmabug to kindergarten. We just got back from Raspberry Days at Bear Lake and we had a great time playing with Chase, Chantelle and little Lincolin who isn't so little anymore. We got our charactures drawn at the craft fair and they turned out so cute. We probably won't be going back up to the lake the rest of the summer which is such a bummer. We love going up there and relaxing with family. I wish Colt and I could afford our own condo up there but there is hardly ever one for sale and the home prices are crazy high. We'll just settle for time with the family which is enjoyable anyway. We stay up and play games, laugh and play in the lake together. We ride bikes and ATV's and we swim and watch fireworks from the deck. I am so lucky to have married into such a fun loving family. Well it's getting late and I need to fight to put 3 silly girls in their beds. Thanks for sticking with me!
