The End is Near

As scary as it was to think about, I'm not talking about the end of the world. I am talking about our NICU journey. Katelyn is up to 5lbs 5oz. She is 17 3/4 inches long. She is eating almost 3 ounces at a time and is sleeping in 5 hour stretches at night. This morning when I called to check on her the nurse told me how cute she was. I guess while they were doing rounds today Katie was wide awake and she got to sit in and listen. She must have been very interested because I heard from almost everyone when I went to visit how funny she was. She has passed her car seat test and our "to do" list is getting shorter. Emma has been able to see her 3 times now. Today she asked me if we could take Katie home with us. Oh how I wish I could've said yes. (We are at day 5 of 7) It was so good to sit in the big chair and hold both my girls on my lap. So far Emma has been kind of confused about her baby sister. She asks about her and wants to be my helper but when I put Katie in her arms she is suddenly shy and she doesn't want to hold her. I caught this beautiful picture while we were visiting. I think Emma will get used to her once we are all home together.

Emma has grown up way too fast. Tonight we went to Panda Express for dinner. I was remembering when we took her and she was in her car seat, then she was in a highchair. Tonight she had her own kids meal and ate broccoli. I have to remind myself to call her big girl instead of baby girl. She is constantly telling stories and using big words like actually. She sings in the car at the top of her lungs and dances in poofy girly skirts whenever the mood hits her, which is often. She demands her nails and toes be polished and has to have makeup, lip stuff and smell good before we leave the house. I've created a monster, an incredibly cute one.
