Emma finally met her baby sister!!
Friday the NICU put together a special surprise for Emma. The hospital has rooms where parents can stay overnight to get used to equipment and how to use it before their baby goes home. They made sure a private room was available for us and they wheeled Katie into it with a portable oxygen tank and an oxygen monitor.
It was so cute to see my little Emma peek into the crib at her sister. She was really curious and smiled a lot. Katelyn did so well, she wasn't bothered at all by the cartoons Emma wanted on or being moved around. It was so natural to have both my girls next to me. I was in heaven. After about an hour Emma was bored and kept asking to go get ice cream. I could have held Katie all day but we needed to go. We kissed her goodbye and put her back in her crib and walked her back to the NICU with the nurse. In more good news the unit has been opened up to all siblings age 3 and up as long as they are immunized. Now Emma can go with me to see her. Katie has been doing well too. She has been so good with her breathing and isn't needing oxygen very often. This morning when I checked on her I got some bad news about her blood pressure. It has been high recently and they are worried it might be a blood clot in her kidneys. She is scheduled to have a renal ultrasound on Monday to check for problems. We are going as a family to see her tomorrow. It will still be wonderful. I have so many things to be grateful for. I am so lucky!
