She is half Bernese Mountain Dog and Half Lab. We picked her up a week before Christmas. She is so cute and her and Bear are great together. She is now almost 45 pounds and full of energy. It has been a challenge but not one too tough to handle. We love her and are happy to have her in our family.
January brought a new set of decisions for Colt and I. Together as a couple we had talked last year about being done with having babies. I wanted to wait a year before doing anything permanent but we finally decided that it was better for us to be done. I had a tubal ligation to finalize our decision. It was tough for me to admit that we were done. I don't enjoy being pregnant but I love the feeling of babies fluttering inside of my womb. I cried for a week before the procedure but I realized that it was the right choice. As much as I would love to have a little boy it won't happen for us. We have three beautiful little princesses and we are happy. That's what matters most. The other choice for us was easier for us to make. We put Katie in her own room and let her cry it out. I was beyond exhausted from the fight at bedtime and decided to take charge. It took about a week of setting the new routine and lots of bruises on her head but I am elated to say that miss Katie is FINALLY sleeping in her own bed ALL NIGHT!! Each night at 8:30 pm my phone alarm goes off and the girls all head upstairs to brush their teeth, get vitamins and get into bed. I put Carly down then Katie and I read stories with Emma and last is Katie's turn. She snuggles into bed, listens to me read and then we say goodnight. It's amazing.
February brought birthday celebrations and more huge changes for Katie. Katie turned 3 on February 19th. I was so emotional. Part of my emotions came from the realization that we would have to say goodbye to her in home therapist Brett. He has been with us since Katie was 7 months old. She couldn't even hold her head up or roll over the first time he saw her. He was new to the Child Development Center and I am so happy he was assigned to us. He helped Katie with so many milestones. We were so sad to see him go his last visit with us. Katie will now be having therapy in preschool twice a week. Her first day was the day after her birthday. I was so nervous. I was supposed to put her on the bus but we had a little trouble with transportation so I dropped her off. I am glad I did. It was surprisingly tough for me to walk her to the teacher and let her go. I had to give her a quick kiss and turn and head back to the car so she wouldn't see me cry. When I picked her up 2 hours later she was so happy. I was relieved. Once we finally got the transportation worked out I was freaked out all over again. The bus pulled up in front of our house and she immediately began saying no. I buckled her into her seatbelt and she began to scream. I hurried a goodbye and turned for the house. It was so much worse than taking her. I handed my special girl over to a complete stranger and prayed that he would bring her home safe. He did and even gave me his phone number just in case. Katie loves the bus now. It is such a good thing. The only negative thing about preschool is I have no idea how she is doing other than little vague notes from class. She comes home happy so I guess no news is good news.
Emma turned 6 on February 23rd. We had a little family party with cake, ice cream and of course presents. She got tons of play makeup from my mom and dress up clothes from Colt's mom. Every day I have to tell her to wash her face before school because she has lip gloss all over it. Her other favorite gift was a beautiful dress from Colt's mom that is like Elsa's from the Disney movie Frozen. She has worn it so much I may need to wash it soon. She had a great time helping put treats for her class together and handing them out. She got a birthday crown from her teacher and wore it the whole day. She got a balloon and a cupcake from the grocery store and thought that was so awesome. It is so odd to think she is 6. I was looking back at pictures from when she was a baby and gosh how she has grown. It is so bittersweet.
March has been kind of mundane. We had a tough time with my mother in law the beginning of the month. She had a mini stroke and gave us all quite a scare but is recovering well. The rest of the month was spent celebrating Colt's birthday and getting yard work done when the sun was shining. I am so ready for warm play outside weather. We are making a play fort in the backyard for the girls under the 2 big pine trees we have. Colt and his friend have begun repairs to the fence and my dad came to help clear out lots of old dead tree limbs. I plan on making a chalk board and we have a play kitchen and some decorations already out there. I can't wait to post pictures when we are all done.
My sweet Carly has become such a cute little stinker. She gets into everything and loves to play with her sisters. She climbs the furniture and dumps out the dogs water. She runs straight for the street when she is outside. She cuddles her puppies and gives head butts instead of kisses. She still loves her binky but honestly its not a huge concern for me. She is still teething so I am fine with her still having it at nap and bedtime. Carly loves watching Mickey Mouse with Katie and dances to any song she hears. We love her so much.
We are looking forward to April and going camping with my parents over spring break. We plan on playing outside going to the park and making crafts for the new play fort. We are planning a vacation next month that promises to be a blast for the whole family and we can't wait. I am planning to update more often and Facebook less, more on that later. For now you are all caught up and we are doing great.
