My visit with Katelyn went so good today. She is doing so well I am loving it. She has been taken off the high flow humidified oxygen and put on room temp O2 which is so much better. Every day her lungs get stronger and she is breathing better. She is easier to hold and now I don't have to worry about her getting drowned by excess water spraying out her cannula. That's happened more recently and it's is awful to see her squirm because she gets water squirted up her nose. She is on 1 liter of oxygen and holds pretty steady at around 24%. I don't know all the technical stuff but I'm pretty sure that's good. Her last eye exam went well and her eyes are near maturity and no blindness. We are so happy about that of course. She has a heart ultrasound on Monday to check on a hole in her heart. It is getting better with each exam. Feedings are going well. The development team comes in to observe Katie eat each time and they are happy with her progress. Sometimes Katelyn is grouchy and lets you know she doesn't want to eat but times like today after her bath when she was warm and happy she gulps her milk right down. She paces herself and has the right rhythm of suck, swallow, breathe. She tires after her bottle and usually falls asleep right afterwards. It's so cute. She loved her bath today which is a good sign. She had her eyes open the whole time and listened to me talk to her. She enjoyed the hair scrubbing like she did her first bath. When I was all done washing her I put on a fresh diaper and warm jammies and wrapped her in anew blanket my mom made for her. Her blanket said I love Grandma. We put a cute little headband on her hoping it would help keep her temperature up because they had a surprise for us today.
Katelyn got to graduate to an open crib today. They are trying to keep her in there again but at 2 pounds 9 ounces it's hard to keep your body temp up. She has been gaining weight really well. They will increase the amount she gets each feeding this weekend. My friend Darlene came to see her on Wednesday. She was amazed at how tiny Katie is. It's funny because I think she is looking bigger each time I see her. It is so exciting to think how far Katie has come in the 7 weeks since she was born. I can't wait for her big sister to meet her!
