That's a First

Mini was wide awake when I visited her today. When I changed her diaper I got to do it not only once but 3 times. I changed a wet one and then 2 poop ones one after another. I didn't even get the other ones velcro on before she was making a mess. That little girl can sure make a big stink. We visited and talked for about an hour before she started to get sleepy. She started fighting the sleep and was getting fussy. Trying to figure out what a tiny baby like that needs is just as tough as it was with Emma. I tried her binky, I tried shushing and bouncing her, I even tried singing to her. (that only worked through one song) Finally after wrapping her up and holding her close she gave in. I love watching her sleep. Mini loves to have her hands close to her face, she also likes to hold things and pull on her tubes. Another hour later her nurse brought in a pink tub. It's the kind that they give you to throw up in when you're in labor. She warmed up some water and brought in some baby soap and we got Katelyn ready for her first bath.

I'll be honest, I was more nervous to give her a bath than I was to hold her the first time. You know how slippery babies are, well combine that with tiny and squirmy and that's what I had to bathe. It's a good thing the nurse was right there helping me. Colt served as photographer. After we quickly washed her body she was wrapped in warm blankets and I scrubbed her head with a soft sponge. I wish we would've gotten pictures of the expression on her face as I rubbed her head, pure elation! She really loved that part. I loved it because I think her hair is curly! We got her all bundled up and warm and put a clean diaper on her. My mom made her a flannel nightgown from a doll pattern and it looked so soft and warm. Mini was in heaven all wrapped up in new clothes and a blanket. We put her back in her bed and left her to get some much needed rest. She is up to 2 pounds 2 ounces. Every tiny gram counts.

Sometimes I feel like I forget to mention how Emma is and what she has been doing. She is just as sassy as ever. She has picked up quite a few funny sayings. I think her favorite thing to say is poopies but I have to remind her that isn't polite. She calls Bear a big lug and loves to ask you "Are you kidding me?" She has added the word responsibility to her vocabulary as well, don't ask me where that came from. She is beginning to get tired of me leaving for the hospital and I have had to start going on Monday's after she is in bed so she won't get upset. We have begun to make weekly trips to the library and she loves the Pinkalicious series by Victoria Kann. We will have to find a doll soon I think. Maybe Katelyn can bring one for her when she gets to come home.
